About

This site is the homepage of the 41st Bromley Venture Scout Unit which has now been split up into explores and network groups. From here on in I am going to quote from the 41st Bromley History book

In the four years that they existed the 41st Bromley Venture Scout unit became one of the most active and popular groups in the district, contributing to scouting in many different ways. They have taken part in various activities such as competitions, community projects and summer camps and these are just for starters. Venture scouting has enabled its members to gain new skills and qualities, overcome personal and group challenges and meet new friends who will never be forgotten.

It all started in November 1999, when a handful of young venture scouts (Dave, Ross, Charlie, Pete and Brent) met on Thursday night at the 5th Bromley headquarters with the aim of starting up a venture scout unit. For a brief while, Mancunian Nick Teagle took on the role of leader. However, when he returned to the north a brave young and courageous man stepped into his place to take on the challenge of guiding these young venture scouts into a differ world of scouting. His name – James Allen!

The unit’s number 41st was made up by a combination of the units members previous troop numbers (4th, 5th and 32nd)

The naming of the unit happened between march and December 2000. The name turnips originated from a scene in “Blackadder”, a popular programme amongst unit members. When discussing the sketch involving Baldric with a turnip shaped as a thingy, the unit decided to call themselves Turnips (as nature intended)
